# Medius awareness campaign aims to reclaim derogatory labels used against whistleblowers

In 2024, a [whistleblowing](https://www.medius.com/financial-census/2024-research/whistleblowing/ "whistleblowing") campaign emerged, challenging the negative labels of 'snitch,' 'traitor,' and 'rat.' It highlighted the uncovering of Enron accounting fraud and the exposure of massive government fraud, while shedding light on the victimization and bullying faced by whistleblowers. The campaign aimed to change the perception of whistleblowers as courageous individuals and emphasized the importance of their role in fighting fraud. It also focused on the fear of reporting fraud and the need to empower others by reframing the term 'snitch.'

I was investigated and victimized.

What do people think of whistleblowers?

It takes guts to do what we did.

You need to be brave. Resilient.

**Jennifer Griffith**

I'm reclaiming the word traitor.

**Sarah Carver**

I am reclaiming the word rat.

**Sherron Watkins**

I'm reclaiming the word snitch.

We need to change the way whistle blowers are seen, how they're treated.

You can't fight fraud if people are too scared to report it.

**Jennifer Griffith**

If we reclaim the words that were used against us, it will take away their power to hurt others in in the future.

**Sarah Carver**

Whistleblowers are not troublemakers. They are simply people who are determined to do what is right.

**Sherron Watkins**

If snitch means doing the right thing, then, okay, I'm a snitch.
